10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (16 Oct)
8. The Blue Meanie Was Influenced More By Comedy Than Wrestling
As part of the 'Blue World Order', The Blue Meanie found some niche success in the pro wrestling world. Not only did the man appear regularly for the original ECW, but he was also signed by WWE for runs under the gimmick. Throughout his career, Meanie managed to drop significant weight in the late-1990's, before ballooning back up shortly afterwards. As The Blue Meanie character, the man didn't wrestle all that often. Growing up, his favourite in-ring performer was Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat, but the youngster was shockingly influenced by another form of entertainment a lot more than wrestling. Comedy was something Meanie gravitated towards, with his favourite comedian being the late, great George Carlin. During his wrestling performances, especially around ringside, Meanie attempted to use the same vivid facial expressions of his hero. These mannerisms served him well, because the bWo managed to take off in ECW, and even later had a run in WWE during 2005.
