The main event of the NWA's Starrcade 1983 spectacular is still regarded as a classic. Going almost 25 minutes, Ric Flair defeated Harley Race inside a Steel Cage to become World Heavyweight Champion. The tagline for the show was, 'A Flair For The Gold', but Race wasn't convinced that his peer had what it took to headline as champion.

The 'Nature Boy' had to win over his more seasoned counterpart, not only with their match, but also with how he handled himself day-to-day backstage. It's incredible to think that Ric Flair was doubted at one point, because he would go on to become one of the biggest stars in the pro wrestling bubble.

For Race however, being champion was more than just being over with the fans. The man in possession of the prestigious title needed to carry himself as champion, and Harley wasn't sure Flair had the special tools to do just that. Of course, Flair would win over Race, proving to him that he could be a remarkable World Champ. This story, shared by Harley Race this week, is pretty eye-opening.
