10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week

1. Konnan Was Earmarked For Hulk Hogan In WCW

A major star in Mexico prior to his arrival in North America, Konnan was disappointed by his brief run in the then-WWF. As 'Max Moon', he hadn't caught on with fans, but the wrestler attributes this more to the promotion's inability to let him bed into the different American style of working. Returning to Mexico, Konnan would come back for another shot in the US, this time with WCW in 1996. Winning the United States Title from the One Man Gang shortly after his arrival, the sky seemed to be the limit for the muscular Latino star. In an interview this past week, Konnan asserts that he was earmarked for much bigger things than just the mid-level championship gold. There were talks with Kevin Sullivan about booking him as a top foreign heel against Hulk Hogan, right before Hulk himself turned rogue and formed the nWo. Due to this, such a top line run would never happen. Konnan remained a high-profile player in the company, but he'd never be that main event level performer. Who knows what might have happened had he joined WCW earlier than he did. It's entirely possible, if Konnan's words are to be believed, that he would have been a challenger for Hogan in marquee matches.
