10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week

9. Roddy Piper Was Given WrestleMania XII Gift

The outpouring of emotion over the death of 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper is quite touching. As wild and wacky as they come, 'Hot Rod' was clearly loved by many, even those he worked alongside. During his podcast, legendary announcer Jim Ross routinely reveals interesting little tidbits that weren't public knowledge beforehand. When discussing Piper, Ross again told something new. At WrestleMania XII, Piper met Goldust in what was billed as a 'Hollywood Backlot Brawl'. Much of the action was pre-taped before the show took place, obviously aside from the ending sequence taking place in front of the live crowd. During the match, footage was shown from a helicopter of a white car, supposedly being driven by Piper. This was clearly the then-WWF aping the OJ Simpson police car chase. According to Jim Ross, when the mayhem was over with, he walked Piper to his limousine. Stopping, Roddy asked Ross what the company intended to do with the white motor. When the announcer asked Vince McMahon about it, the boss said to simply give it to Piper as thanks for his hard word. Roddy promptly broke down in tears, and subbed the limo ride for a drive in his new car.
