10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (April 19)

8. Gail Kim 'Didn't Understand' Her 'Matrix' Character

Both of Gail Kim's runs in WWE could be considered confusing.

The company never seemed to get Gail, and she had far more success as part of TNA than she ever did under the McMahon family umbrella. During an interview for the 'Ring The Belle' pod, Kim admitted to being totally flummoxed by creative's plan to capitalise on the hype surrounding the 15 May 2003 release of The Matrix Reloaded.

On the surface, the plan wasn't a bad one. WWE fancied stealing some of the box office magic the Wachowski brothers had in Hollywood by dressing Gail up like a mix between Keanu Reeves' Neo character and Carrie-Anne Moss' Trinity. The only issue here was that Kim didn't know what the hell was going on. The purpose of the gimmick was never properly explained to her.

Gail filmed some vignettes for her new gimmick without knowing what the future held beyond pretending to be a Matrix mash-up. Around 18 months later, one of the writers conceded that they could've done a better job of clueing Kim in.
