No amount of begging was going to work on Terry Taylor, and WWE weren't going to try too hard.

On his 'Something To Wrestle With' podcast, Bruce Prichard examined WrestleMania X-Seven in depth and recalled working the 'Gimmick Battle Royal'. The idea was a good one; 19 legends and misfit gimmicks would compete in a short romp down memory lane. It was supposed to be 20, but Taylor wanted nothing to do with it.

Prichard claims Taylor was meant to reprise his 'Red Rooster' character in the match, and reasons that's probably why Terry was hesitant. He was never fond of the gimmick the first time round, so it makes sense that he viewed it as stupid so many years on. More fool him, because the Battle Royal was a riot.

Bruce couldn't remember anyone else turning it down. Even he daubed his face in red paint and reacquainted himself with the 'Brother Love' persona for the match. Taylor, meanwhile, couldn't have been less interested in the whole thing.
