Prichard wasn't finished with the good stories about 'Mania X-Seven.

Steve Austin has since gone on record many times to say he wishes he'd called an audible before shaking Vince McMahon's hand and turning heel. To Austin, that alliance with his mortal enemy was a mistake, especially because it happened in his home state. That's fair, but it wasn't the only turn creative had in mind.

Originally, Triple H was supposed to perform a run-in on the main event and stop Austin's savage beatdown on The Rock. That would've necessitated a double turn (something WWE had done years prior with Austin and Bret Hart at WrestleMania 13). Austin would've become heel, and Trips would've become babyface.

Neither man thought it was a good idea. They wanted to experiment with their 'Two Man Power Trip' tag-team after 'Mania instead, not continue working against one another. Imagine how different things could've been had they agreed to the double switch.
