Long before Kurt Angle was inserted as Ronda Rousey's tag partner for WrestleMania 34, WWE wanted The Rock to fill that spot. Once it became clear Dwayne Johnson's Hollywood commitments would prevent that from happening, they turned to Batista.

Yes, Batista.

The Wrestling Observer reported this week that the ex-Evolution man was WWE's second choice to team with Ronda against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in New Orleans. His own film career and history with Triple H made him a strong candidate, and he was pitched in creative meetings before Angle's name came up.

The Observer also said Batista and WWE met to discuss his first WrestleMania appearance since XXX (which was also in New Orleans). The mixed tag is less about in-ring quality and more about generating media hype, so it would have made sense for WWE to pursue someone who is in the public eye outside the wrestling bubble.
