The story of Jerry Lawler's match against entertainer Andy Kaufman has been told at length since it happened in 1982. Films starring Jim Carrey (Man On The Moon) have even been made recanting the far-fetched tale of scrawny actor taking on wrestling's 'King', and it remains something people are fascinated by.

Imagine the obsession had it been Elvis Presley instead.

Jim Cornette told on his Drive-Thru podcast that Lawler once tried to broker a deal that'd see Elvis hit the ring to put him in his place. The idea revolved around Jerry's 'King Of Memphis' nickname, and Presley's annoyance that someone else was trying to take his place. When Presley died, so did any and all hope for the angle.

Cornette claims Lawler did "put out feelers" and that Elvis was a big wrestling fan. Had he lived, who knows. Instead of remembering Jerry's match with Andy Kaufman, people might be talking about that time Lawler put one of rock n' roll's most famous sons in a headlock or broke his neck with a Piledriver.
