It's fair to say that Chris Jericho's debut promo in the WWF was nerve-wracking stuff. Jericho knew he'd only get one chance to make a meaningful first impression, and he was all-too-aware of the fact he was duelling with The Rock on 9 August 1999 edition of Raw. The pressure was on, and Chris was keen to come prepared.

Knowing he had to pen a winner, Jericho scribbled down his promo lines and privately confided in Vince Russo for advice. Both discussed this on the latest episode of Jericho's podcast. They told how Jericho showed Russo his first draft and then politely asked, "do we have to show this to anybody else?".

Russo replied by saying they should show it to The Rock, but that no-one else needed to see.

That's weirdly fascinating. Jericho, Russo and Rocky sat down at catering to thrash out some more details, and they never once included Vince McMahon in their conversations. He witnessed it unfurl live with everyone else, and then gave his feedback later.
