As referenced during the intro to this article, Adam 'Edge' Copeland retired in the Spring of 2011 from active wrestling. His last match came at WrestleMania XXVII, Edge successfully defended the World Heavyweight Title against Alberto Del Rio. Just over a week later, his in-ring career was over.

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Edge lifted the lid on exactly what his plans were after 'Mania. With just one year left on his WWE contract, the man aimed to walk away from full-time action following WrestleMania XXVIII in 2012. Plotting out the final 12 months of his deal, Edge wanted to face Christian on that show.

The original plans called for Christian to eventually cost Edge the title against Del Rio. Then, Edge would set his sights on revenge and gun after his former tag-team partner and storyline brother for the rest of the year. Things would culminate at WrestleMania, and Edge wanted Christian to beat him on WWE's biggest show of the year.

Sadly, none of this could happen. Physically unable to wrestle, Edge had to retire immediately. He'd never get that big 'Mania moment with Christian.
