1993 was a tumultuous year in the life of big Sid Vicious. After leaving the WWF in '92, Sid made his way to WCW, immediately became a top star and then found himself searching for work once again after a nasty brawl with Arn Anderson during WCW's UK tour. For those not in the know, Sid attacked Arn with scissors.

Yes, scissors, and he reportedly stabbed his peer around 20 times.

Two years later, the WWF planned to bring Sid back as a bodyguard for Shawn Michaels. It made sense, but Bruce Prichard said on his 'Something To Wrestle With' pod that the former Sid Justice didn't like his proposed new name. To him, being called Sycho Sid was a diss or (at the very least) a rib at his expense from the crazed attack on Arn.

Sid told Vince McMahon he wouldn't let anyone called him a psychopath, and he certainly wouldn't entertain it as part of his act. Eventually, Sid softened on the idea and agreed to go under the Sycho Sid moniker. Prichard's not sure what changed in Sid to make the Sycho gimmick so appealing.
