3. What Vince McMahon Told Jake Roberts About His Hulk Hogan Feud

Jake Roberts has told before in shoot interviews how an audience's decision to chant "DDT! DDT!" after he cracked mega-face Hulk Hogan with one in 1986 cancelled their fledgling feud. Vince McMahon, who had been hoping for a different reaction and some serious heat for Jake, was left disappointed and turned him baby instead.

Now, Roberts (via the 'Two Man Power Trip' podcast) has divulged what Vince actually said to him that night.

Once Jake came through the curtain, McMahon told him to wait right there and listen to the people chant for Hulk. He couldn't stop jawing off about how much money the rivalry would make everyone, but went silent when he heard fans shouting for Roberts. A few seconds later, he turned to Roberts and said, "Wow, well that's the end of that".

When he'd calmed down a little, Vince told Jake he wasn't willing to spend his marketing dollars on a feud he considered dead in the water. As soon as people chanted for Roberts, all plans to make him the WWF's top heel were scrapped.
