Back when he was sat alongside Jim Ross during the Attitude era, it's fair to assume Jerry Lawler could have announced the show standing on his head. At that point, Lawler was in such a groove with JR that commentary was a breeze. Come this year's Royal Rumble however, Jerry was out of the loop and a little worried by the lack of direction.

On his Dinner With The King podcast, Lawler revealed that WWE gave him next-to-no direction before the men's Rumble match. They didn't even tell the Hall Of Famer he'd be going out on his own before the match, and that left Jerry feeling worried when Michael Cole and others stormed ahead without him.

Standing alone at the Gorilla Position, Lawler was even more concerned when Vince McMahon got up to give him a hug without telling him what was expected. According to King, it was Billy Kidman who eventually reassured him and said he'd be introduced separately as a special surprise.
