This week, World Wrestling Entertainment apparently severed ties with the infamous 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper, releasing him from his WWE Legends deal with the promotion. Since his induction into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2005, Piper has made sporadic appearances for the organisation, acting almost as an ambassador for the company.

It was Ric Flair who dropped the bombshell during his own podcast, 'Woo Nation'. Piper had recently been engaged in a feud of sorts with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, supposedly stemming from Austin's distaste at former Mad TV star Will Sasso's impersonation of him on Roddy's show. For his part, Austin has denied allegations that he's responsible for the threat of Piper losing both his podcast deal with Podcast One and his WWE Legends contract.

Whilst it seems unlikely that someone as laid back at Steve Austin seems to be nowadays would get all salty over an impression of his voice and mannerisms, it is interesting to note that Piper himself has released a statement saying he will address the situation, and seems to be continuing to talk up the idea of a 'rivalry' via Twitter.
