Trying out for a new gimmick Vince McMahon had in mind, Konnan was all set to become Max Moon in the WWF of the early-1990's. Eventually, the actual televised role would go to Paul Diamond, but Konnan was around in the company long enough to make a real impact, at least behind the scenes.

On an episode of WrestleZone Radio, the Mexican star talked about overhearing Bret Hart's wishes to emulate Sting's finishing move over in WCW. A submission hold, Sting would tangle his opponents legs up and flip over into a modified Boston Crab, which he called the Scorpion Death Lock.

Hart wanted something similar, the move which would then become the Sharpshooter, but had no idea how to get into the hold. Helping out, Konnan offered his services in the ring before a show and showed Bret how to lock it in.

It wouldn't be fully accurate to claim that Konnan invented the Sharpshooter, but it appears he did have a role to play in teaching Bret Hart how to go about using it.
