Following a series of introductory vignettes that started airing in September of 2006, Cryme Tyme made their in-person debuts on the October 16 episode of Monday Night Raw. Instantly, JTG and Shad Gaspard proved popular, told by Vince McMahon to act like heels even though they were cast as babyfaces.

What the boss meant by this was that the duo would effectively be thieves, selling off stolen goods to live crowds. By the time the Survivor Series pay-per-view came around, Cryme Tyme were all set to mark Lita's in-ring retirement by selling off a few of her personal items in a memorable segment.

Behind the scenes, JTG was approached by McMahon. Telling the young wrestler that he had a bright future, Vince also told him he was the 'heartbeat' of Cryme Tyme. It's clear these words had an impact on JTG, because he even seemed incredulous whilst retelling them to Jim Ross on a recent edition of his podcast.

McMahon told JTG he had endless potential, and to go out and have fun during the segment to come.
