On December 6, 2004, Lita and Trish Stratus turned up as usual for that evening's Monday Night Raw broadcast. The real-life besties knew they were working a match against one another on the show, but they were handed quite the surprise upon arriving at the arena.

Examining the whiteboard detailing all of the matches scheduled for the broadcast, both women were surprised to see that they were the last ones written down. Conversing, they agreed that the lineup must not be complete yet, so they should simply focus on putting together their own bout. Only then were they informed that they were indeed that evening's main event.

Sports Illustrated's Extra Mustard asked Trish about that night during a recent interview. According to Stratus, it took a good few hours for the knowledge to sink in, but both she and Lita were determined to live up to the billing.

The match has gone done in history as a first and is a favourite amongst fans. It was a truly monumental moment for female wrestling in the company, and yet it's stunning to think that neither woman knew they were going to headline until a few hours before the show.
