Even though he expressed disinterest in attending the event beforehand, Bret Hart later claimed he had fun at Payback.

Not only did he chat with Triple H backstage amicably, he also played a key role in Natalya's WWE Women's Title match against Charlotte. Behind the curtain, Bret also reconnected with someone else.

On his own podcast, The Sharpshooter Show, Hart said that Shane McMahon approached him at Payback. As the son of Vince McMahon, Shane had a lot to live up to during his younger years, something which must have come with unique pressures few can identify with. During those formative years as an impressionable youth, he said Bret had been there for him.

Hart was touched by the comments, revealing that Shane thanked him for protection against the 'vices and evils' prevalent in the pro wrestling industry.

The short meeting must have been a powerful one that left quite the impression on Bret, because he claimed he was grateful for Shane's comments.
