10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Nov 26)
5. Jake Roberts Had To Stop Alice Cooper From Fainting At WrestleMania III
The approximate 93,000 number has been debated back and forth over the years, however there's no doubt that the crowd inside the Pontiac Silverdome for WrestleMania III was WWE's largest to date at the time. Obviously, that number has been topped in recent years. Back in 1987 though, it was the largest in history.
Even well-seasoned performers were taken aback by the sheer size and scale of 'Mania III. Accompanying Jake Roberts to the ring for his match opposite The Honky Tonk Man, rock star Alice Cooper seemed to be in his element. The then-WWF had a genuine celebrity on the show, and Cooper had a brilliant experience to look forward to.
On the Primo Nutmeg podcast, Jake Roberts said that the singer couldn't fathom the size of the live crowd. Completely overwhelmed by the rush of appearing in front of so many screaming people, Alice actually fainted as he stood on the ring apron.
Incredibly, Roberts had to hold him up and try to make it look like Cooper was simply acting. Passing out on his feet, Cooper almost fell out of the ring.
