When then-creative team member Bruce Prichard pitched the character of Brother Love, Vince McMahon thought he had someone else in mind to play it. Prichard was actually thinking of himself, because he knew he could do the gimmick justice. After seeing Vince's reaction, Bruce decided to take a slight risk.

Prichard told Sean Mooney's Prime Time podcast that he dressed up as the heel pastor in his office at Titan Towers after buying a white suit, red shirt and white tie from a nearby shop. Unannounced, he burst into Vince's audience and began cutting promos like he had envisioned when coming up with the character.

McMahon was impressed enough to give Prichard the role, but not everyone was enamoured with it from the off. On the same podcast, Bruce revealed that Hulk Hogan, André The Giant and Reverend Slick (who was a real-life pastor) all felt it was a little over-the-top.
