10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Nov 4)

3. Joey Styles Was Left Alone With An Irate Kurt Angle In ECW

It's very well known that Kurt Angle was in attendance when the original Extreme Championship Wrestling took things too far. On October 26, 1996, Angle was just a few months removed from winning a Gold Medal at the Summer Games in Atlanta. Invited to ECW by Paul Heyman, Angle couldn't believe what he witnessed.

Raven used a wooden cross to effectively crucify The Sandman, all before posing with the ECW World Title. Watching from afar, Kurt was incredibly distressed about the storyline. Right there and then, he decided that he wanted nothing to do with pro wrestling if this was the kind of thing expected.

Talking to Sports Illustrated's Extra Mustard, former ECW announcer Joey Styles revealed some new details about that night. As he was set to add commentary in post-production, Styles was standing with Kurt and Heyman as the angle transpired.

When it happened, Joey turned to see how Heyman would react. To his dismay, the boss had fled the scene, leaving Styles to try and calm down an upset Kurt Angle. Intriguingly, Styles also claimed that fans in attendance were just as turned off by the crucifixion.
