2. Junkyard Invitational

In a bid to prove that they could do hardcore wrestling as well, WCW staged a so-called "Junkyard Invitational" at Bash at the Beach in July 1999, bringing together a heavy-blend of cruiserweights and jobbers from the lower reaches of the roster.

The premise here was pretty simple: it was every man for himself, the only way to claim victory - and a trophy (yeah, not a title belt, a trophy) - being escaping before any of your opponents. Oh, and it took place at an actual junkyard.

Like House of Horrors, a big problem here was that fans in the arena just felt like they weren't getting their money's worth. They bought their tickets with the expectation of seeing action unfold inside the ring, not filmed by helicopter at an undisclosed location a few miles away.

But, mainly, this won't be revisited any time soon because of how superbly dangerous it all was. According to reports, several of those involved came away with serious injury, not least of all eventual winner Finlay (and, as they never tire in reminding us, he's absolutely tough as nails).
