10 Wrestling Gimmicks That Failed Before They Started

1. The Zombie

Zombies are all the rage these days, right? The Dead movies, The Walking Dead, iZombie, The Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, World War Z - so why couldn't a zombie work in pro wrestling? ECW (the WWE revived ECW, not the original) asked this very question in the mid 2000s when it introduced The Zombie (journeyman wrestler Tim Roberts in zombie makeup). The answer? Well for starters, zombies aren't exactly the most agile bunch, nor are they good at promos that go beyond "grr argh BRAAIIIINNS". Frankly, there are cool wrestling gimmicks with supernatural vibes (The Undertaker, Kane, Bray Wyatt), and then there's putting a zombie wrestler in the ring. The Sandman dispatched of the Zombie quickly during his best forgotten appearance, and the gimmick only lasted a single night - which wasn't even Halloween night (that would have made more sense). Rogers would go back to the regional circuit, and sadly passed away in early 2015 at the age of 38.
