10 Wrestling Heel Turns That Never Should Have Happened
1. Goldberg (WCW, 2000)
Bill Goldberg's example should act as a lesson to any promoter looking to turn a babyface with no good reason. Even more so than Steve Austin, WCW's own renegade flopped spectacularly as a heel. Fans just didn't want to boo Goldberg, and why would they when he had always been so entertaining as a hero?
People hadn't seen Goldberg run through anybody in around six months by the time he returned for WCW's Great American Bash 2000 pay-per-view. The company was in dire straits, and any remaining fans desperately needed someone like Goldberg they could get behind.
In an act that shouldn't come as any surprise to fans who know anything about WCW, Goldberg turned heel and aligned himself with Vince Russo at the Bash. Instead of receiving genuine heat for his actions, the former bad-ass just gave WCW fans another reason not to care about the product.
This was the very embodiment of an ill-advised heel turn. Goldberg should have returned all guns blazing. Instead he was reduced to being just another meaningless swerve in WCW history.
