10 Wrestling Heel Turns That Should Be Erased From History

At the Great American Bash 2000, the wrestling world was going to change forever and there was “Nothing that Vince McMahon could do about it.” At least this was the claim that the new creative team of Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff lobbed at the fans.

If given the opportunity, McMahon likely wouldn’t have wanted to stop it anyway, as the two pulled off something that put a few more nails on top of the nails on WCW’s coffin when they turned Goldberg heel. Da Man helped Jeff Jarrett win the WCW Heavyweight Title at The Bash, and aligned himself with Russo and Bischoff. In the words of Ron Simmons "DAMN!"

Here was the one top star in the company that fans still loved, and they tried to force us to hate him, all in the name of a swerve. They had him beat up cancer survivor Jim Duggan, and perform a few more evil acts along the way, but Goldberg’s heart wasn’t in it, the writing was terrible and there wasn’t a ready-made hot feud for him to take part in.

Some people just aren’t meant to be bad guys, and Goldberg was one of them.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
