10 Wrestling Matches Inspired By The Original WarGames

ROH’s own WarGames variant was first held in 2005, dubbed Steel Cage Warfare. While cage matches were nothing new in ROH, the Warfare variant followed WarGames’ team-based competition with timed entrances determined by a coin toss. Furthermore, Steel Cage Warfare featured eliminations by pinfall and submission until every member of the losing team was defeated, whereas WarGames only needed one man to submit or surrender to end the bout. There have only been four of the bouts to date with the last held in 2013 -- which saw the S.C.U.M. stable disband as a result of their loss.

The first-ever bout saw Austin Aries' Generation Next overcome The Embassy, led by former Generation Next member Alex Shelley. Meanwhile, the most notable Steel Cage Warfare bout took place the following year when the bout brought a definitive end to the seven-month feud between ROH and Combat Zone Wrestling. This version of the match also took place inside CZW's Cage of Death structure, which was littered with weapons. Interestingly, 2008’s match saw a unique triple threat variant as The Age of the Fall battled Austin Aries and The Briscoes, as well as Necro Butcher -- who fought alone against the other two teams.
