10 Wrestling Matches Inspired By The Original WarGames
2. TNA Wrestling: Lethal Lockdown
From 2005 until 2016, TNA held their Lockdown pay-per-view which typically featured every match being contested inside a steel cage. Chiefly, however, the event was headlined by the annual Lethal Lockdown match -- a team battle with a WarGames twist.
The teams' size varied through the years, with anywhere from three to five members. However, the bout’s rules were a nearly identical copy of the traditional WarGames match. Individuals entered the cage every two minutes and the match was won with only one pinfall or submission. In Lethal Lockdown, once all of the participants had entered, the cage’s roof was lowered into place. Furthermore, weapons such as chairs, bats, and even tables were frequently hung from the roof, coming into play once lowered.
Lethal Lockdown played host to a number of memorable moments throughout the years. In 2009, AJ Styles dove through the roof onto Kurt Angle's team below. 2010 saw Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair participate in the match, becoming bloody messes by its end. Meanwhile, the final bout in 2016 saw The Dollhouse overcome Gail Kim and Velvet Sky in the first-ever women's Lethal Lockdown.
