10 Wrestling Matches Neither Wrestler Could Afford To Lose

1. Triple H vs. Sting (WWE WrestleMania 31)

This one was less forgiveable to older fans for multiple reasons.

Firstly, it was f*cking Sting. He was NWA/WCW royalty, had revived his career post-WCW in TNA and was finally making his way to WWE. Mouths watered when he appeared on TV to set up a match with Triple H at WrestleMania 31. This was it: the final showdown between WWE and WCW and a dream match kind of scenario that'd boot off Sting's run in the company nicely.

On the other side, Triple H was likely thinking he'd look like a tool if he lost against an ex-WCW great. What kind of message would it send to everyone in the locker room if some aging relic from a dead company could waltz into WWE and start beating the top names willy nilly?

It was a difficult one to sort out, but Sting was only too happy to do the honours. That, as generous a gesture as it was, had a negative impact on his short WWE run. He'd been beaten on his very first go-around in a promotion fans had yearned to see him part of for almost 15 years.
