10 Wrestling Matches That Carried The Highest Stakes

2. Paul Bearer’s Life

The Undertaker is an a**hole.

That really cannot be stated enough. We're talking about the character here, not the man, who is probably lovely.

After all, which other wrestler has murdered his own parents, or attempted to murder his manager with millions of witnesses? And which has the gall to be a babyface after all this?

At The Great American Bash 2004, 'Taker took on The Dudley Boyz in a Concrete Crypt match. This went down because The Dudleyz had kidnapped Bearer, and threatened to kill him by having Paul Heyman pull a switch that would drop concrete mix on a helpless Bearer if 'Taker didn't lose the match.

So it was quite simple really: all Undertaker had to do was lay down and save his friend. I mean, the WWE title wasn't even on the line or anything! You would think that management would be willing to overlook the loss on his record due to the unusual circumstances when deciding future championship matches.

'Taker was stubborn, though, and he just had to beat D-Von and Bubba. He risked a man's life for pride... though how much pride does one have when wrestling on a show featuring Kenzo Suzuki vs. Billy Gunn?

Oh yeah, and for absolutely no reason 'Taker decided to kill Bearer anyway as he pulled the switch himself. It's just a shame that nobody before or during the entire show decided to call the cops. There's just so much damn evidence!

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
