10 Wrestling Matches That Were Difficult To Watch Live
2. Jeff Jarrett & Debra Vs. Val Venis & Nicole Bass (Over The Edge 1999)
Over The Edge 1999 was the night Owen Hart died.
This was the first segment to take place after Vince McMahon made the call to keep the show going.
... exactly.
Regardless of whether or not Over The Edge should have been cancelled following the fall, nobody wanted to watch wrestling a mere 15 minutes after the incident. Everyone was stunned. Though Owen's status was still unconfirmed, the audience had just watched a man plummet 70ft into the ring, and WWE neglected to share any updates with the live crowd.
WWE employees were put in a terrible bind, too. Bass, Debra, Venis, and Jarrett tried to work their respective acts, but each was so obviously shaken up that they needn't bother, while Jim Ross was barely able to hold himself together on commentary.
A pointless six-minute intergender tag bout followed, with Venis and Bass taking the victory, but those who witnessed it live were likely in such a state of worry that it didn't even register, and less than an hour later, it was announced that Hart had perished. By that point, nothing else that happened on this fateful PPV mattered.
