In some strange parallel universe (probably known as most of the internet’s fantasy booking), that same pay-per-view that is headlined by Rusev vs. Nakamura will include a number one contender’s match between these two popular superstars. Big E has felt like a major star in waiting for a number of years now, while AJ Styles may well be the number one act on the entire roster.

The current WWE Champion has faced both Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods on WWE television, but he is yet to do battle against The New Day’s game-changer. Singles opportunities for Kofi, Woods and E have been relatively limited over recent years, but it can only be a matter of time before that changes. The trio are simply too talented to be confined to tag team competition.

AJ Styles vs. Big E is a future pay-per-view main event waiting to happen. The match would likely be an absolute barnburner too. AJ is one of the best in the world, and Big E is high on the list when it comes to underrated performers in the company. If ever there was a positive advert for WWE’s developmental system, it would be the second-ever NXT Champion.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
