10 Wrestling Moments That Broke The Internet

5. The Rock Vs. John Cena At WrestleMania 28

Had social media been as all-encompassing as it is this decade, it's likely that The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan would have made it onto this list. Their WrestleMania 18 encounter was an unthinkable dream match; a clash of past vs. present, WWE vs. WCW, and - as it was billed by the company - Icon vs. Icon. If only we had a modern equivalent to use instead... WWE recognises that its best days are firmly in the past, and seems to be using nostalgia more shamelessly these days than ever before. The Rock and Cena's 2012 was built for an entire year, and it worked like a charm, drawing incredible figures at WrestleMania 28. The new fans came in droves, the old fans were sucked back in (however temporarily), and a boatload of hype was generated. Two generations clashed online like never before and, although Cena got his revenge a year later, Rocky's initial victory saw an outpouring of joy from even the most casual of Attitude Era fans - such is his enduring mainstream appeal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XywJfH2fO_c
