Rarely has any match ever over-delivered as much as this. A WrestleMania mixed tag between a woman making her in-ring debut, the company's Chief Brand Officer, and two men so deep into the autumn of their respective careers that their entrance music might as well have been the Coca-Cola 'Holidays are Coming' jingle.

On paper, a wheezing, sloppy, unmitigated 10 minute disaster on the worst possible platform. In practice, easily one of the most enjoyable WWE matches of the last few years and, without doubt, one of the most quintessentially WrestleMania-y contests in the PPV's storied history. For over 20 minutes the combatants teased the crowd, played with their expectations and surprised them with a series of stunning spots.

However the match's centrepiece, almost accidentally so, came when Triple H and Ronda Rousey faced each other for the first time. The rules of WWE's inter-gender contests meant that Trips should have left the ring when she entered, but the COO used his considerable sway to reassure the referee.

Despite his confident smirk, Rousey promptly battered The Game, unloading a flurry of near-shoot body shots as a now rabid crowd seemed to genuinely believe they were watching the Octagon. They categorically wanted her to beat him up for real, cheered that she was, and in the process entirely forgot that she wasn't.
