10 Wrestling Moves More Dangerous Than You Realise
4. Double Foot Stomp
It's an easy move to classify as dangerous, the double foot stomp, because what safe way is there to take the full force of your opponent's feet into your chest?.
Described by Shinsuke Nakamura as "like being stabbed in the chest", the aerial technique is the go-to finish for Finn Balor. Monikered the Coup de Grace, Balor's execution of the move has always looked merciless, yet graceful. 'The Prince' glides through the air, achieving such height that the stomp's impact on his opponent's chest is the most justifiable modernised match-ender. Anthony Ogogo ended bouts via stoppage in his early AEW stints by forcefully punching an opponent's ribs; what's so different, impact-wise, to a double stomp having the same effect?
Look at Balor's I Quit match vs. Edge from Extreme Rules 2022 for confirmation on this. Held down by the Judgement Day, Edge took a series of Coup de Graces without any protection. He took both feet straight to the stomach in a sickening visual, not for the squeamish.
Rightfully so, few have kicked out of the Coup de Grace. It's resulted in guaranteed pinfalls each time since Kevin Owens was the last to kick out of it in July 2015. It's almost as modernly protected as Kenny Omega's One-Winged Angel.
