10 Wrestling Promo Lines That Were WAY Too Personal

8. Shawn Michaels Says Something Potentially Life-Changing

It's poor form enough to say something on live television that a wrestler's collaborator never agreed to.

It's significantly worse to say something that might impact upon their career and ability to draw money, like accusing their rival of being dangerous or saying something so cutting that it's impossible to take them seriously after the fact. You know, the Triple H special.

It was horrendous of Shawn Michaels to insinuate, on live television, that Bret Hart was having it off with Sunny.

He infamously did precisely that in 1997, when Vince McMahon willingly encouraged both men to adapt their very real feud onscreen. Michaels, playing the smart-arse, said that he knew Hart had been "seeing some Sunny days lately". This was a decent bit of wordplay from a heel, in truth - the "I didn't say anything, don't know what you're on about" insincerity was so much more detestable than him outright saying it - but it would only have been worth it, had Bret approved the line before it. He did not.

His wife at the time Julie was incensed; the line only fuelled her preexisting suspicions. They were actually just that, Hart has maintained every day since, but what was Julie to think? Isolated as her husband was constantly on the road, Shawn, and this is some irony, was closer to him than she was.
