10 Wrestling Promo Lines That Were WAY Too Personal
7. Matt Riddle Says Something That Everybody Should Stop Saying
This doesn't quite fit the theme of the list; most everything in WWE is scripted, and if isn't, that is only because the promotion has total, unshakable trust in those few who are allowed to improvise.
All of which is to state that the line from Matt Riddle's recent Raw promo didn't go way too far; this isn't 1997, or AEW. Seth Rollins was not legitimately upset by his words. This was an agreed-upon work of fiction written, by a writer, in advance, to create the illusion that the dispute between two ostensible actors playing fictional roles is "real".
Still: wrestling, and almost literally every promotion is guilty of this, badly needs to stop marginalising women and their accomplishments. Doing so is going much too far for a cheap bullsh*t pop.
Riddle taunted Rollins by saying that he hasn't main evented WrestleMania - but his wife sure has!
The subtext here was that Rollins was lesser than his wife, because if a bloody woman can headline WrestleMania, how the hell hasn't he?
It is utter prehistoric rubbish and a total self-own, given how much WWE protests parity elsewhere.
