10 Wrestling Promos That Started REAL Backstage Heat

1. Shawn Michaels And Bret Hart

Yeah, you knew this was coming and, to tell you the truth, it’s such an obvious one that I considered just leaving it out. However, there will be a small percentage of people who read this article who’ve somehow never heard of it and JUST IMAGINE HOW STOKED THEY’RE GOING TO BE TO READ IT.

Ok so, WWE in the mid-'90s was not a happy place. They were getting slaughtered in the ratings by WCW, backstage politicking was killing careers, and their top stars were at each others' throats. The two best things they had, Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, were allegedly caught in a love triangle with Sunny.

For Hart, being married at time, this was a precarious situation. Naturally though, HBK took it upon himself to make a not-overly-subtle joke about this on live national television, telling Hart he’d been having “some Sunny days” lately.

While both Hart and Sunny deny that anything actually happened between them, that didn’t stop him from attempting to, and I’m quoting here, “beat the living s**t out of him” backstage some weeks later.

Of all the bad blood between the two stars - there might have been something to do with a title change in Canada, I can never quite remember - this was arguably where it reached the professional point of no-return.
