10 Wrestling Reboots More Famous Than The Original

Bray Wyatt was hailed as one of the most original WWE characters in years when he first popped up on the main roster back in 2012, with many suggesting at the time that he could easily have found a place in the gimmick-heavy Attitude Era.

But his shtick isn't quite as fresh as you might think. About two decades before The Eater of Worlds made his debut, there was another eccentric performer who walked to the ring in garish Hawaiian shirts à la Max Cady, namely Dan Spivey, aka Waylon Mercy.

To many, Mercy is the quintessential example of a wrestling gimmick just a couple of generations ahead of its time. Despite the colourful get-up, the character was simply too subtle next to the cast of larger-than-life extroverts that made up the mid-'90s roster.

Unfortunately, while Bray became a WWE Champion, Waylon - thanks in part to persistent fitness issues - soon ended up going the way of a million other mid-'90s WWE gimmicks. He was released within just a few months of his debut, never to return.
