There are those who would have you believe that TNA have never done anything other than ride the coat-tails of WWE.

That's unfair, and the promotion can boast the original X Division as theirs, as well as helping establish the likes of AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. They have at times been a truly viable alternative for hardcore wrestling enthusiasts looking for something different to the McMahon-led juggernaut.

Then, there have been other occasions when those in charge at the company completely ape what WWE are doing in order to enjoy a little success for themselves.

The greatest example of this was Eric Young's 2014 TNA World Title win. There's no doubt that this only happened because Daniel Bryan had captured WWE's big belt at WrestleMania XXX.

On April 6, Bryan captured the wrestling world's collective imagination by becoming champion. TNA decided to quickly capitalise on that support by having their own smaller, bearded underdog collect the biggest win of his career.

On April 10, Young defeated Magnus to become the new TNA World Champ. There wasn't as much excitement for this as there had been for Bryan, because the whole thing felt like a cheap rip-off.
