10 Wrestling Rivals Who Seriously Can’t Stand Each Other

3. Matt Hardy & Edge

Another wrestling tale that scarcely needs repeating, the triangle of resentment between Edge, Lita, and Matt Hardy cannot go unmentioned on a list such as this.

Hardy went public with the story in 2005, blogging that Lita, his girlfriend at the time, had cheated on him with one of his closest friends, Edge. This led to WWE releasing Hardy rather than the actual perpetrator for daring to put the story out there, though it was also true that the company saw Edge as potentially a bigger star than Matt in a situation where they perhaps felt they couldn't keep both on the same roster.

But the duo were sharing a locker room again three months later, when overwhelming fan support for Hardy led to WWE rehiring him. The ensuing feud was unfortunately lacklustre. Hardy, the aggrieved party, was beaten by a drum. WWE had successfully used the heat stemming from the situation to inspire mass resentment for Edge and Lita (who was treated horrendously herself, but for entirely different reasons), though there was little dramatic heft beyond the hot opening weeks.

Edge and Lita progressed to become a top heel act in WWE. Beyond the tag scene, Hardy never broke out beyond the midcard.
