10 Wrestling "Shoots" That Were Total Works
2. Pipe Bomb
Perhaps the most well-remembered entry on this list came on 27 June 2011, when CM Punk dropped his infamous "Pipe Bomb" promo on Raw. That evening, John Cena was wrestling R-Truth in the main event, but Punk interfered to cost Cena the match, then sat on the stage and cut a promo that many consider to be one of the best in the sport's history.
Despite the run-in on Cena, the primary target of Punk's rant was Vince McMahon, whom he singled out for not using him properly. During the promo, Punk declared himself the best in the world, criticized WWE's business acumen and the decision to put The Rock in WrestleMania XXVIII's main event, called Triple H a "doofus" and Stephanie McMahon "idiotic", and promised to win the WWE Title and take it to New Japan or Ring of Honor.
Of course, Punk's promo was scheduled, but the legend that grew around it was that he took verbal liberties, getting angry or carried away in the moment and saying things that he wasn't supposed to say. This wasn't true - WWE could have cut Punk's microphone at any time (and in fact, the promo ended with his microphone being cut at the scheduled time). This was simply gutsy writing and great delivery.
