10 Wrestling Stables That Never Fulfilled Their Potential
8. The Corre
For the creation of the Corre, WWE's creative team likely took the best elements of the Nexus - Wade Barrett's leadership, Justin Gabriel's agility and Heath Slater's... and Heath Slater, paired them with the first big man they could find and called it a day. Even though the Corre were essentially just a smaller Nexus with the rather bland Ezekiel Jackson tagged on, fans were still cautiously optimistic. Barrett had proved that, despite WWE hamstringing him with terrible booking every step of the way, he was a superb villain, with his booming British baritone, and an even better leader, through his sheer size and presence.
So the creative decision to declare the Corre a leaderless group perplexed and even turned sections of the fans off. Whilst the group all had what it took to make it, capturing midcard gold along the way, terrible shirts, entrance music and eventually booking just told the fans that these four lads weren't worth anyone's time and effort. This was summed up best by their WrestleMania XXVII burial, with the group soundly squashed by a rag-tag quartet that included Santino bloody Marella.
But the most unforgivable? WWE asked themselves "which of these could make a main event heel?" and decided that Jackson, the group's least popular member, was their man. Shame.
