10 Wrestling Stars WWE Should Never Have Let Get Away
8. Matt Sydal
Matt Sydal was an independent star for many years before being signed to WWE, and even though his small size meant that he would have an uphill battle, fans still wanted to see him succeed. And he did... briefly. Renamed "Evan Bourne," he made a splash on the new ECW brand, then joined Raw and dazzled fans with his high-flying acumen.
Soon, though, Sydal began to falter. His losses started to outnumber his wins, and despite a victory over Chris Jericho and a Tag Team Title run with Kofi Kingston, he slid down the card. Wellness suspensions and injuries didn't help, and after a year of simply not being used, Sydal was fired.
Sydal, like Beretta, jumped straight into the independent and Japanese scenes. His biggest splash has come in New Japan, where he's formed a tag team with the best high-flyer on the planet, Ricochet. Together, the duo won the Super Jr. Tag League tournament in 2015, a pair of Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships, and the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Titles with Satoshi Kojima.
