10 Wrestling Title Changes You Never Knew About

10. Edge - 1st WWE Intercontinental Title

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2tsjc_edge-vs-jeff-jarrett-ic-title_sport The Title Change: Edge upended Jeff Jarrett for his first Intercontinental Title at a house in Toronto, Canada on July 24th, 1999. Why? The WWE likely wanted to give the Canadian hometown crowd a big surprise as wrestling titles almost never changed hands on house shows. This also may have been a way to reward fans since Jeff Jarrett's originally promoted opponent, Ken Shamrock, was unable to make the show due to transportation issues (think Kerry Von Erich beating Curt Hennig for the same title as a last minute replacement when Brutus Beefcake was unable to appear for Summslam '90). Edge was from Toronto and was the hometown favorite and WWE management almost certainly had big plans for him for the future. Additionally, this was in the prime of the Attitude Era and title changes were becoming fast and furious to surprise the audience in an effort to remain ahead during the Monday Night Wars.
The Aftermath: Edge would lose the belt quietly back to Jarrett at the Fully Loaded pay-per-view the following night when Gangrel interfered to help Jarrett. Edge€™s win over Jarrett for the belt in his hometown was deemed a large upset at the time and Edge would continue on his highly successful tag team with Christian for several more years after his brief taste of singles gold. Two years later Edge would take home his second Intercontinental title against Lance Storm in the fitting climax to his proper post-tag team solo run. Once Edge did get his first major solo push in 2001, he would go on to become a multi-time world champion and WWE Hall of Famer.
