10 Wrestling Title Changes You Never Knew About

4. Tommy Dreamer - 1st ECW Title

Dreamer had been with ECW for over seven years and was one of the remaining top active wrestlers who had been with the promotion and not held their world title. Interestingly enough, Taz was already a member of the WWE at this point in his career and was allowed to win and subsequently drop the ECW title due to some unusual circumstances. Fans knew it was likely a foregone conclusion that the WWE import would lose to the local ECW star and after a heated match, Dreamer would finally win the title. After winning the belt, Dreamer made an emotional speech and the ECW locker room emptied out to congratulate him. It looked to be a special moment that would signify the beginning of a great title run for the ECW Original. Tommydreamer1 Display ImageThe Aftermath: Professional wrestling has a knack for trolling fans and seemingly spoiling perfect endings. This was one of those times. Before Dreamer could exit the ring with his newly won gold, Justin Credible comes out from the back, attacks him and challenges him to an immediate title shot. Dreamer accepts and this would then be a case of the champion losing the belt on the very night he won it (almost like a €œmoney in the bank€ robbery scenario before there was such a thing) Francine would turn against Dreamer and the gutsy champion would heartbreakingly lose his title less than a few minutes after his greatest victory. Later, Dreamer would win the WWE version of the ECW World Title in 2009 but his one authentic championship reign with the original promotion was a brief footnote in history.
