10 WWE & AEW Gimmicks That Belong In A Different Era
3. The Butcher & The Blade
This tag team feels like the one most out of place in AEW.
Deservedly considered the greatest tag team roster in modern wrestling history, it seems surprising and somewhat of a shame that the Butcher and the Blade are part of it. They are a good, solid tag team who play the role of bastard bad guys well and they have a decent look. (Although not too sure about the all white get up at times.)
Whilst they can provide good foil for the quicker, babyface teams, there is a certainly a ceiling for them in AEW and it looks like they have already hit it. Honestly, do you see them jumping to the top of the division? There are many teams above them, with younger, more dynamic teams rapidly approaching them, too.
This gimmick, like the Dirty Dawgs, would have been a roaring success during the Ruthless Aggression Era, considering the title belts at the time were held by the likes of Deuce & Domino and The Basham Brothers. Slotting the Butcher and the Blade into that division would have likely seen them become a pillar of the division as opposed to making up the numbers.
Time isn't on their side, and it doesn't look like AEW creative is, either.
