10 WWE & AEW Wrestlers Poised To Break Out In 2022
1. Hook
Hook is the very definition of post-ironic. In transforming from a IWC meme to a legitimate competitor, his admiration among the fandom swung from ironic and slightly mocking to sincere appreciation. "Send Hook" went from a punchline to a part of the newcomer's gimmick as a legitimate threat, combining technical skill with the wincing brawler style.
As a member of Team Taz, Hook's booking alongside his ECW/WWE icon father should be looked at by bookers as a prime example of how to build new talent using their familial legacy without provoking groans and cries of nepotism.
At the time of writing, Hook has competed in four matches against lower-card talent and exclusively in squash bouts, typically going until around the three-minute mark. However, he has proven that he can work with heavyweights (Bear Bronson), technikers (Aaron Solo), and high flyers (Fuego Del Sol). He can also hang with opponents who have vastly more in-ring experience (Serpentico alone has 15 years in the ring) - at least in short bursts.
AEW creative seems as high on Hook as the fans. His current trajectory is certainly promising. Giving Hook a continued rise in 2022 is easy fan service on behalf of the company.
