10 WWE & AEW Wrestlers Who DESPERATELY Need A New Direction
6. Johnny Gargano
"You're bringing me back to do ?????", is what we imagine Johnny Gargano thinking in the above photo.
WhatCulture's distaste for how WWE have handled Gargano's return is well-documented, but to summarise: If you are going to bring back someone whose nickname is Johnny Wrestling, it may be a good idea to just let the poor sod go out and wrestle. Gargano's return has been blighted by the sub-Brookside level storyline he's been embroiled in, tarnishing a return that promised so much.
And that's what's so frustrating about all this - WWE gave themselves the perfect storyline for Gargano's return, then inexplicably changed direction. Johnny's initial promo on his return to WWE was pitch-perfect, as the fan-favourite wrestler outlined his desire to be a role model to his son and take care of unfinished business in the company. Heart-felt, relatable and easy to root for, this was the Gargano we wanted to see upon his return - not the SNL reject he has since become.
Johnny Gargano would and should be a valuable addition to the midcard title scene, as Johnny Wrestling isn't an ironic nickname - he can go in the ring like few others, and watching him battle the likes of GUNTHER and Theory as a lovable underdog is a program that practically books itself.
