10 WWE Announcements That Fell Flat

1. Vince McMahon's Million Dollar Give-Away

Vince McMahon is the businessman here, but if your new marketing strategy involves giving away one million dollars, then hadn't you better make damn sure that said strategy yields, at minimum, one million dollars in return?

You have to hand it to them: it was a bold way to drive up ratings.

For a couple of weeks, the WWE chairman would stand in front of a glitzy set* live on Raw, making calls to viewers - by all accounts (well, WWE's anyway), actual viewers - to whom he would then pledge a cash prize, for no other reason than the fact that he was Vince McMahon and it was his show and this is America and he can do whatever he damn well pleases.

The announcement fell kind of flat though, with fans (justifiably) fearing two likely outcomes: wrestling would be side-lined, and nobody would actually get paid. They were right on the first point, and on the second - that's still very much up in the air.

*The same one he used to fake his death - again.
